A number of major players in the gaming market have joined forces to give the medium a rather sizable push, Microsoft, Intel and nVidia forging the PC Gaming Alliance in order to better make the most of what is, still, easily the most widely available games platform.

Other PC gaming players will be joining the Alliance, which hopes to give the embattled format a major push, hopefully resulting in games other than MMOs on the platform.

The Alliance will speak on the eve of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next week.

The Alliance looks a bit like an extension of the 'Games for Windows' initiative, though quite what they plan on doing remains unclear.

More soon.
