A trademark application unturfed by the eagle-eyed folk at Trademork hints that could be considering a more concerted assault on the games market, possibly via a new handheld device.

The new filing moots: "Toys, games and playthings, namely, hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games."

Could this be some kind of iGame portable? Or perhaps a new feature to be added to one of Apple's existing iPod-range devices?

Apple does of course already offer a variety of minor titles via the iPod through iTunes, and this new trademark application suggests the giant could be plotting new products and services related to gaming.
