Dirty Wiis causing Smash Bros. issues
Dual-layer discs struggling with "well-used" drives
Nintendo Japan have today suggested that problems experienced by gamers trying to enjoy Super Smash Bros. Brawl could be related to 'dirty' Wii consoles, which are causing the game discs to struggle somewhat.

Ninty, nice sorts that they are, are now to clean Wii consoles free of charge to improve Smash Bros. performance, users having complained of jumping video playback, while others state the console won't run the new release at all.
Apparently, build ups of dust and tobacco in the disc drive's laser unit could be causing the issues, Super Smash Bros. Brawl coming on a dual-layer DVD which can be more sensitive to such clogs.
Lens cleaning should help solve the problem, Ninty offering to undertake this free if the Wii, warranty and SSBB copy are sent to a service point. Postage is covered, as is a return within a week. Pretty good service, all in all.
SSBB is out in North America next month. No European dating has emerged yet, sadly.
