ELSPA deny US piracy furore
90% DS piracy stat dismissed
The Sunday Post had credited ELSPA's John Hillier with revealing that "90% of Nintendo DS users are playing pirated games because of the R4s," a reference to the piracy-empowering modchip which has been causing Nintendo great concern of late. Accept that it isn't true.

In fact, according to GamesIndustry.biz, who have been speaking to ESLPA, the European software body wouldn't dream of commenting in this manner on the US market. While we learn the report is mix-up of other articles, inaccurate quotes and nonsense.
So, perhaps the R4 isn't responsible for epic piracy rates stateside, after all?
"The quotes from The Sunday Post were ascribed to his name from another article which originates from a website in Singapore. This, it appears, is where The Sunday Post first found out about the supposed R4 situation and for some reason unknown to John have quoted him on what this article said," explained ELSPA.
Nintendo also confirm that these facts are "spurious". More soon.
