Britsoft's own Interactive have today lifted the lid on a new action-RPG title for the and DS, called Monster Lab.

The new title is set in the eerie world of Uncanny Valley where we're reliably told the evil Baron Mharti rules with a cruel hand. Playing as an apprentice scientist, you'll be performing a vast array of intricate "experiments" to create a monster from over 100 million possible monster part variations on offer (we're told).

You'll then be able to explore the landscape with your monster, gathering new monster parts, fighting, taking on quests and dabbling in mini-games you stumble across.

"Monster Lab will offer a wealth of fresh ideas to both Wii and players," explained Fabien Rossini, Global Brand Controller, Eidos. "These include gesture based combat, a compelling on-line fighting and trading system and total customization of the player’s monster."

Yes, Monster Lab will make use of the Wii's mode for combat fun, and you'll also be able to trade monster 'bits' with pals via the web. You'll need to grow your monster's power to eventually be able to challenge the ruthless Baron.

Backbone Vancouver are developing - the game will be out later this year.
