The latest figures reveal that Activision's 4 was the best selling game worldwide during 2007. Collated numbers from research firms NPD, Chart-Track and GfK indicate that the game sold more than seven million copies since the game was released in November last year.

"Consumer and critics agree that Call of Duty 4: is one of the best games ever... This ground-breaking game and franchise continue to establish new standards by which all other games will be judged," offered a clearly pleased Acti chief Will Kassoy.

A Call of Duty 5 is now a sure bet, then, with on the grapevine hinting that are considering a return to the series' origins with a game set during WWII, or thereabouts.
