PS3 predicted to catch Wii
The Wii and the Xbox 360 may have set all the early pace, but Sony's PlayStation 3 revival is apparently going rather better than anyone could have predicted, prompting Screen Digest's analysts to forsooth that the console will catch the Wii... by 2011.
According to Screen Digest's latest analysis, the Wii is likely to be number one with an installed base of some 75 million consoles in fours years time, but that the PS3 will be a very close second, the 360 will be some way off the pace in third. Apparently, Microsoft's beast is likely to have sold around the 40 million console mark by 2011.
Screen Digest's predictions come as Nintendo move to pull ads for the console, marketing deemed pointless given that no consoles are available pretty much anywhere (apart from in Estonia, we hear) - despite the platform holder's efforts to bolster stock for the festive season.
PS3's, on the other hand, are far more readily available. More on all this soon.
