Speaking at yesterday's press conference announcing a broadband promotional partnership with Japanese telecoms giant NTT, revealed that they have so far racked-up 7.8 million downloads on the service.

The 'VC' delivers a range of classic titles from retrograde systems, such as the NES, SNES and N64, as well third-party machines such as the TurboGrafx-16, the Megadrive and the NeoGeo. At the conference, Ninty executive Shinji Hatano stated that the service had generated revenues of 3.5 billion Yen (about 34 million USD) so far.

Despite this apparent success, then, Nintendo were coy on the level of success achieved by the retro download platform, Hatano affirming: "We're currently unsure if this is a lot or low. They're not bad figures."

More on the VC's successes, soon.
