NCsoft lands City of Heroes rights
New games planned?
NCsoft is already the publisher behind MMO titles City of Heroes and City of Villains, and we today learn that the giant South Korean firm has now also acquired the rights to the brand, too, in a deal with Cryptic Studios. The developer had previously held the intellectual and proprietary rights to both the Heroes and Villains franchises.
While ownership was divided between the two companies before it will now all pass to NCsoft, while the publisher will also license various Cryptic developed engine technologies for use in other games.
"City of Heroes and City of Villains players should be assured that Cryptic Studios will be working closely with NCsoft to ensure a smooth, seamless transition," commented Cryptic boss Michael Lewis.
"Our plans are clear," added NCsoft executive producer Brian Clayton. "We are now in a position to make a major reinvestment in the City of Heroes product line."
