After the upheaval in it's now the US's turn to have some re-jigging. SCEA today announced that the 40GB PS3 is indeed arriving in America for only USD 400. The unit should be available from November 2nd, along with a USD 100 price cut on the 80GB model.

As in other territories, the 40GB will also loose it’s backwards compatibility, and have fewer USB ports and no memory card readers. These changes are likely to combine to make the 80GB the system of choice until stocks run out; it not only has all the missing features but is now at a bargain price.

Some reports have been coming in that cheaper 80GB units have been seen in the wild already, so it could be that retailers try and get the jump on the changes by reducing the PS3 before the 40GB hits.

Either way, this seems to be a good time to buy a PS3, and looks like is getting it stall in order for the holidays.
