Will Wright awarded the Fellowship BAFTA
Games to hit the mainstream. Again
Exactly what the mainstream really is nowadays, and quite why the games industry seems so keen on assuring us all that it's damn well part of it is open to debate. However, seeing Will Wright, creator of games like SimCity and The Sims, being awarded the Fellowship BAFTA seems like another step towards that goal.
Following in the footsteps of distinguished names like Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg, Wright becomes the games industries first recipient of the award.
Hilary Bevan Jones, Chairman of BAFTA said of the award: “Will’s immense, creative body of work and his continued contribution to the industry make him a most worthy recipient of the Fellowship and being such a pioneer, we are thrilled that he will be the first person to receive this honour”.
Wright will take an evening off from beavering away on his next creation, Spore, to receive his award on 23rd October.
