Sony announces Japanese PS3 price drop, 40GB SKU, new colour
Sony starts to move out east
As was to be expected, Sony have announced the current price cutting spree will continue in their home country as Japan joins the all new cheaper 40GB PS3 party on November 11th.
Much the same as the 40GB model that'll be available in the rest of the world, the Japanese unit will be two USB ports short and exclude the memory card reader and all backwards compatibility. However, unlike the rest of the world those lucky Japanese gamers will get a choice of colours with a new ceramic white model going on sale along side the now traditional black.
Also released on the same day in Japan will be the new Dual Shock 3 controller that was recently announced at the Tokyo Game Show. This new version of the gamepad at last combines both the Sixaxis control and a rumble function.
Both colours of the new PS3 unit will retail with an RRP of 39,980 YEN (approx 341 USD) while the Dual Shock 3 will go on shelves priced at 5,500 YEN (47 USD) in matching colours.
