Halo 3 holds back for BAFTA Awards 2008
Omission explained
With BAFTA announcing their hotly contested Games Awards nominations today, ahead of a final awards ceremony to be held as part of London Games Week in late October, many gamers were surprised by the absence of 2007's biggest release - Halo 3.
Fear not, however, this is not a glaring oversight by the nominations board, instead Microsoft opted not to submit an unfinished product and will instead submit the game for 2008's awards.
Halo 3 could have been entered, as BAFTA allow submissions released between the previous fourth-quarter until December, hence the inclusion of Gears of War and Wii Sports in this year's nominations.
This also explains why games like Crysis and Football Manager 2008 make the list, with word reaching us that early versions of such games will be played by judges behind closed doors.
Halo 3's entry in 2008 could at least see the game going head-to-head with Metal Gear Solid 4 and GTA IV, which could make for an interesting tussle. The full BAFTA nominations list can be found here.
