Ninty detail 'Hanabi Festival'
Classic hits revived
As part of their Hanabi Festival celebrations, Nintendo have announced plans to release a series of classic titles previously only launched in Japan via the the European Virtual Console service.
Some of the special offerings are available from today, with Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels available until September 30th, as well as Mario's Super Picross. The former was only released as part of the Mario Allstars compilation on SNES, previously.
More goodies will hit the VC next week, too, with Ninja JaJaMaru-kun and Ninja Gaiden heading to town from the NES. The latter is of course the beat 'em up which kick-started the long-running series.
The festivities will conclude in the third week with Gradius III from the SNES and cult hit Sin and Punishment. Sin and Punishment is a well regarded on-rails style shooter.
In case you're interested, the Hanabi Festival is a three week period in which the end of the summer is celebrated with large firework displays across Japan. During 'Hanabi', NES games will cost 600 Wii points, SNES 900, while Sin and Punishment will cost a whopping 1100. We'll keep you posted as we learn more.
