Sony running out of 499 USD PS3 systems
60 GB stocks running dry
Sony America have today revealed that there are no more 60GB PS3 consoles left to ship to stores, meaning that when the current batch on shelves are sold there will no more waiting in line to replace them. The 60GB systems are, of course, available for a discounted 499 USD, with Sony ushering in 80GB 599 USD systems by way of replacement.
Sony originally billed the 499 USD pricing as a way of clearing existing stocks of the 60GB SKU, before ushering in the improved 80GB model, which it is believed Sony can manufacture more cheaply owing to hardware revisions.
North American gamers eager to get a slice of PlayStation next-gen action might therefore wish to hot foot it down to their local games emporium and pick up one of these systems - before all that's left are the more expensive 80GB models.
Gamers might be hoping that Sony will reduce the price of the 80GB console in due course, though Europeans will be grateful of any discounting whatsoever, the Starter Pack (console, plus two controller and two gamers) currently the best offer at 425 GBP or 599 Euro.
More PS3 pricing chatter in due course.
