Official reports filed with the Virginia governor's office have concluded that the Virginia Tech shootings have no link to computer games. Just after the tragic events unfolded, Fox TV broadcast outspoken lawyer Jack Thompson laying the blame at the feet of the games industry, something subsequent investigations have failed to collaborate.

While the deeply troubled shooter, Seung Hui Cho, played games like the Hedgehog during his childhood, none of the games he played were violent or contained war themes. Previously, activists like Thompson had tried to link the Virginia Tech massacre to previous school shootings, where gaming links were discovered.

"What the FBI and Secret Service found after Columbine after looking at all the school shooting up to then was the common denominator of the perpetrators being immersed in incredibly violent entertainment, most notably violent videogames," Thompson told Fox, explaining "To have been able to pull this off, with the high body count, one has to have been able to have rehearsed it, and I think that's unfortunately what will be found to be the case."

Rather than blaming games for the tragic shootings, however, the report laments that university officials didn't spot Cho's problems early enough to prevent 30 students and two teachers being murdered before Cho eventually killed himself.
