Sega's Empire: Total War announced
New RTS from The Creative Assembly
Yet more GC news in hot off the press from Sega now, the publisher lifting the lid on yet another new offering from British developer The Creative Assembly, Empire: Total War. The developer's Viking: Battle for Asgard was revealed yesterday.
While Viking looks to lean towards an action-orientated experience, Empire: Total War looks set to deliver a full-on real-time strategy experience, in the same vein as past Total War offerings.
As with past entries in the series we're told to expect epic full 3D battles, historical themes, and we also learn this will be the first Total War game including naval combat.
Set in the 18th Century, a time of political turbulence, the game will take in the Industrial Revolution, America’s struggle for independence, the race to control Eastern trade routes and the globalisation of war on land and sea.
"Empire: Total War is a huge revolutionary step for the series. We’re delighted to introduce true 3D naval combat, something that adds a totally new dimension to Total War games," enthused Mike Simpson, Studio Director at The Creative Assembly, the man credited with creating the Total War series. "We’re genuinely excited about what we’re achieving with the naval battles and also by the scale of the improvements being made to the core of the game – the land battles and the campaign. This will undoubtedly be the biggest and best Total War game we’ve ever made."
Sega reveal that The Creative Assembly have secretly been working on the title for over a year, with a release in 2008 plotted.
