Escaping the impromptu showers of seismic proportions that greeted me in Berlin this morning, I'm now installed in the press centre of the Leipzig Messe, from where our Games Convention 2007 coverage will be beamed to you.

So, what's up first? News on 2 from Codemasters, I'll have you know, the British publisher using the German expo to confirm that the game will be called Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, and will be released in 2008 for those much-touted "next-gen" consoles and of course the trusty PC.

A convincing modern military sim is billed, with frenetic and convincing the order of the day as players adapt to ever-evolving combat situations.

"Set on a vast oil-rich island, located off the eastern coast of Russia, north of Japan, Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising’s fiction occurs during a time of tension between Russia and over the island’s disputed ownership," explains Andrew Wafer, Brand Manager for Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, at Codemasters. "The game will open as Chinese forces launch an offensive and, referencing the title, as the dragon rises over the island, players will find themselves in a situation that is set to flare up into a flashpoint like never before."

A new 'explosive' trailer for the game is also set debut at GC. More shortly.
