The version of Boston's seemingly unstoppable is to be made available via the content delivery system, it today emerges.

While it isn't quite as exciting as the Toys R Us gaff stateside which saw one clerk put the game on shelves over a week early, the Steam release will at least mean willing prepurchasers can download the game before hand then commence play just as soon as the game is actually released.

The digital version of BioShock will cost 49.95 USD, and it will launch on August 21st stateside and on August 24th in PAL regions - the same timings as the full boxed copies arrive. 2K originally signed-up to use Steam late last year, joining Eidos, Capcom, Activision, id and other friends already using the platform.

More BioShock soon.
