Ninty requests users re-join Club Nintendo
New privacy policy links stars to Wii Shop Channel
Users of the Club Nintendo loyalty scheme in PAL regions are being asked to sign-up to the club again, or risk losing the Nintendo 'Stars' they have so far managed to collect.
Users need to agree to Nintendo's new privacy policy by July 15th, or they risk losing stars collected to-date. The policy gives Ninty "permission to gather information about your online activities on our web site and with Nintendo’s products." The company explaining that the move was taken to allow the implementation of new features, based on users' needs and preferences.
In the wake of this, an officious email was circulated to users, stating: "If you choose to DECLINE our new Privacy Policy , you will from [this Sunday] onwards no longer be able to use your Stars in the Stars Catalogue, as we will be forced to deactivate your Nintendo membership."
As well as the Nintendo site, the new policy covers playing habits on the Nintendo Wii too - covering such things as play time and downloads.
The good news is that stars will now be linked to the Wii Shop Channel, allowing users to collect the rewards for downloadable purchases, among other clever things.
