Rock Band ups the ante with Metallica, The Who, and more
GHIII faces stiff competition
EA and MTV's Rock Band looks likely to up the ante in the battle of the rhythm-based music games, Harmonix's next opus promising full albums and a raft of supporting artists.
Yesterday, E3 saw Guitar Hero III track-listed, also confirming that Gun 'N' Roses' Slash will feature in the new game. Today, Harmonix confirm that their new game - featuring voice and drum action, in addition to guitars - will include whole albums from multiple labels.
British rockers The Who will be the first band committing a downloadable album to the title, with 'Who's Next' appearing in its entirety. Gamers will be able to play the band's entire 1971 album, with this content arriving post-launch among weekly content updates promised.
The likes of The Strokes, David Bowie and Black Sabbath are included in the 16 initial tracks to be bundled with the new game, more over Steven Van Zandt, of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, has been hired as part of the game's music advisory board.
There's more, too, with EA revealing that while The Who's album will be sold as a new content option post launch, Metallica's 1991 Black album will be included in the new game from the off. Here are the 16 standard tracks to be included:
