Games for Windows ups the ante
With Peter Moore rolling out MS Games chief Shane Kim to highlight the new bikes in Project Gotham Racing 4, the pre-E3 briefing in Santa Monica saw us introduced to the streets of Shanghai, the prospects of a tropical storm to contend with in-game, and even the new PGR 'On Demand' service.
The new PGR service will allow players to trade videos and photos and will arrive in September, according to Kim.
More major news (will it never cease?): Microsoft confirm that Viva Pinata and Gears of War are on the way to Windows PCs. Epic's Cliff Bleszinski takes to the stage, and we're told to expect a full co-op mode in Gears on the PC, all using the Games for Windows - Live service.
Five new singleplayer chapters will be included, as well as an enhanced multiplayer mode including new arenas and fresh achievements. 'CliffyB' moots a launch this Christmas for Gears on the PC, having demonstrated the title to a suitably impressed crowd.
New Games for Windows - Live titles are promised from Sega, Eidos and THQ - with more than twelve games en route this very year. The PC multiplayer service will also now come as part of the Unreal Engine 3 middleware, which is fairly major news we'd add.
