Sony Japan rubbishes PS3 price cut
'No immediate plans'
The plot thickens. US retailer Circuit City had hinted in an official advertisement that Sony are to cut 100 USD from the cost of the PlayStation 3 console post-E3, though Sony Japan has now poured cold water on this rumour. It had been inferred that an announcement on the price cut might be made at E3 next week, though Sony president Ryoji Chubachi has responded to such rumours suggesting there are "no immediate plans" for any kind of official cut.
Online reports had suggested that the cut would be led by Sony, rather than retailers, though Sony Japan's subsequent statement to news agency Bloomberg suggest otherwise. While Chubachi heads up Sony 'central', he also qualified his statement adding that their Sony Computer Entertainment division is ultimately responsible for the new console's pricing.
Whether this means a Sony Computer Entertainment instigated cut is in-bound at some point in the not-too distant future remains unclear, though the announcement of such a move next week does now seem rather unlikely in the context of Chubachi's comments.
More soon.
