Merchants of Brooklyn is apparently a brand new first-person being developed by Paleo Entertainment. Their claim to fame? The fact that they've just licensed the CryENGINE 2 with which to craft their opus. The CryEngine, as you may already know, is Crytek's proprietary game engine - the original version of which was used in Far Cry, the latter on Crysis.

Merchants of Brooklyn is a traditional FPS, by the sound of things, sporting both single and modes, set in the distant future - 3100 AD. You'll play Matteo Savio in the game, following his progress from "day to day MOB life, Scientific Education and Galactic adventures." Which sounds... confusing.

"Before licensing the CryENGINE 2 for our new project, we looked carefully at all our options, and concluded no other engine could produce the kind of AAA quality game we were aiming to develop, nor were any other tool-sets as advanced or user friendly as the ones delivered with the CryENGINE 2," explained Troy Latimer, president of Paleo Entertainment. "The combination of the best rendering and physics engine of any middleware available, together with the powerful Sandbox 2 editing system, was what lead us to decide to license this technology from rather than attempt to develop an engine ourselves, or license something from another third party.

"With this agreement in place, we can immediately begin to move forward with prototyping our game, secure in the knowledge the engine will be able to handle everything we need, while the tools will give us the creative freedom to build the kind of next generation game no one has been able to make until now."

Paleo are promising more on Merchants of Brooklyn soon.
