30 million USD for Conan and Funcom
Plus Anarchy Online gets microtransactions
Age of Conan developer Funcom have today revealed that they have secured some 30 million USD of funding in order to conclude development and release the Conan MMO based on the works of Robert E Howard. Eidos are set to deliver Age of Conan: The Hyborian Adventures to the PC this October, with an Xbox 360 version also confirmed.
The 30 million USD in investment from a private source will be used to prepare infrastructure and marketing ahead of Conan's arrival come October 30th. Like every other gaming firm, Funcom will also use the their fresh lolly to 'investigate' the casual games market.
Despite the ever-looming launch of Conan, Funcom haven't given up on their aging Anarchy Online MMO just yet, revealing that microtransactions will soon be added to the game. Gamers will be able to buy points, which they will then be able to spend in the game world on goodies like in-game items and services. 10 and 20 USD point 'packages' will be available. Monthly subscribers will also land an allowance of points every month.
