As we predicted last week have officially lifted the lid on II during a special event which took place in South Korea over the weekend. In something of a shock announcement, the developer revealed that the sequel has actually been in since 2003.

The company adds that the sequel to the original hit is 'very far along' in its development, but that nothing will be released until it is ready. Like the original, conflict will focus on battle between the Protoss, Zerg and Terrans - albeit with new units and numerous gameplay enhancements.

Multiplayer will be a focus of StarCraft II, Korean gamers being enticed by the prospect of an experience designed for 'high-end' play, including more technology tree options and the like. We also learn the Zerg will be getting suicide troops, the Terran siege tanks, reapers and battlecruisers.

The Protoss, meanwhile, seem to be getting an almost complete overhaul with new heavy tanks, 'prisms' (for unit transportation), colossi walking machines, phoenix units for air combat and motherships all on the cards. We're told these motherships will change time to present enemy fire from working, and boast planet cracker lasers.

A few other changes were made official, while Blizzard state they are altering the focus of the game to promote epic battles with vast numbers of units. We'll bring you more on this as we get it.
