PS3 price drops spied
While UK high street retailer WH Smiths cut the retail price of the PlayStation 3 at their stores to 400 GBP as part of an Easter weekend deal which concludes today, Play.com are also offering the console for under the 400 GBP mark, and plan to do so for the 'foreseeable future' according to word from The Register.
Play.com reveal that their cut-price PS3 offering includes a free HDMI cable, 'Click' on Blu-ray disc, and even covers free delivery. These cuts, led by retail rather than Sony, come as speculation mounts Sony will axe the 20GB system all together - with sales of the lower-spec system flagging in all regions.
The Register also cite reports suggesting Sony could knock 100 USD off the console's retail price by October this year, in order for the PS3 to better combat the Xbox 360 Elite, which boasts a similar specification for a lower price. The Elite is due out in North America at the end of this month.
More on all this as we get it.
