Guild Wars 2 a response to fans expectations
Sequel 'for the fans'
Having recently confirmed a sequel to popular MMO Guild Wars, developer ArenaNet have announced that number two will be all about the fans, being created in response to the desires of the game's existing players, rather than as a bid to widen that game's appeal.
"We're not trying to make a different game that appeals to a different audience," Ben Miller, lead designer on Guild Wars 2, told UK site Eurogamer.net yesterday, "We want Guild Wars 2 to be the game Guild Wars players want to play."
Guild Wars 2 was officially confirmed in the last week, and remains some way off with a beta test not on the agenda until 2008. ArenaNet are now plotting an experience that will be refined and expanded, creating the game existing fans want to play - rather than attempting something entirely new and facing head-to-head battles with games like World of Warcraft.
Miller also revealed that his team are relishing the chance to put right a few development wrongs of the past, as well as improving popular elements of the experience. Stay-tuned for more information.
