Massimiliano Di Monda - GB Rally 2
Ferrago talk to Raylight on their latest...
Raylight are an Italian developer, currently beavering away on a number of impressive projects for the GameBoy Advance. Perhaps the most impressive is their racer ‘GB Rally 2’ – a game which looks to set new precedents for hand-held graphics. With this in mind, I quizzed Raylight’s Massimiliano Di Monda, on the topic…

What is the background of Raylight; will we have played any of your games before?
Massi: Raylight is a young company, but all the founders have many years of experience on PC, PlayStation and GameBoy Colour. Before funding Raylight, we all used to work for another company in Italy. Our past games were published by Sunsoft and Midas Interactive.
What is your aim with GB Rally 2, why the change in perspective from the last game?
Massi: Well the change of perspective is due to the powerful hardware of the GBA, that allows us to have such graphics without the limitations of the GBC, and also because we want a more simulation-style game.
Our aim is to offer the first fully 3D rally experience, with real car physics, gorgeous graphics, smooth handling and tons of fun for all players!
What has the GBA hardware allowed you to do in the game?
Massi: Thanks to our 3D engine, now we have a full 3D environment, with precise collision detection. Also we've a full 3D car, this allowed us to put real car physics in the game, different handling for every road surface and much more, obtaining something similar to that which you can play on powerful console. Adding to this we've several special effects such as smoke trail, lens flare and motion blur (for car lights).
