The Y-Project is the name for an Unreal-engined RPG/FPS hybrid, currently being developed by Germany’s Westka Interactive. I caught up with Ingo Horn (Marketing) and Thomas Schaefer (Producer), to discuss the game further…

The Y-Project's name is something of a mystery to me; why was it chosen?

This title is not the final one yet. But it’s the name of an important nearly forgotten experiment onboard of the spaceship witch brought the humans to the planet the takes place several years later … So it could fit in terms of the storyline, but we will see.

The visuals certainly look unique; especially the environments, from where did you get your inspiration for them, and what locales will feature?

There are too many inspirations in architecture and to just list them, but the important part is, that we try to form our own unique universe! We put a lot of emphasise and work into that (so thanks a lot for mentioning it!). On the other hand we will not unveil all the cool elements that we will add to our environment but you could expect some archetypical elements of large cities. It’s simply more fun to explore these areas instead of going through offices shops or private homes all the time. We will entertain the player by choosing stunning and visually believable “regions” of a city – as an example take a museum of history, or a red-light district. But we will also have locations outside the city dome!

Will the game feature NPC's? What role will they serve, and how will they form part of the plot / single player game?

Of course NPC´s will drive the story to a higher level of detail, so we will have many very important key NPCs in the game They will give you Quests, Sub quests, Hints, but as well could cause some trouble for you.

The NPCs are all survivors from the catastrophe when the glass dome broke. As most of the victims were people from the upper-class, you can imagine, that of the surviving NPCs are not that highly reputed persons. So you will encounter freaks, cyberpunks and other tough guys that will be fun to get in contact with.

Multiplayer. Have you any plans for this you can reveal?

We have many plans and ideas, but for these it is much to early to speak about! Even if the game would not have any modes, there will be support to create single-player mods and levels when the game is released.
